Crimson Rosellas are so-called due to their crimson and blue plumage. They also have black patches throughout the upper wing area. Both male and female look similar. When in flight, these birds often make quick "kweeek kweeek" calls repeatedly. However, when marking their territory, they make a double piping whistle that can be heard echoing throughout the mountains.

Crimson Rosellas live in moist forests, farmland and parks, and feed on a variety of seeds. Therefore they can be found throughout the Blue Mountains.
